I'm still waiting for OrangeWood RV, in Surprise Arizona, to send me items agreed upon in the sale and purchase of the Open Range 5th Wheel. When the dotted line was signed and OrangeWood received the check, I felt as if I was kicked to the curb, like a red headed step child!

An outcast. I called the dealer for the items that were promised, well, the dealer has not returned my call, nor has the parts manager returned my call. I feel I made a big mistake buying my Open Range 5th Wheel from OrangeWood RV in Surprise, Arizona.

I now know, I will have maintenance problems with my Open Range 5th. I live and learn!

Just kills me when the company gets blamed for a *** dealer. You don't say what the problem is that requires maintenance.

These units travel down the road at 65 mph things come loose. Dealers don't do a good enough pdi and don't keep there promise and the company gets blamed. Call Highand Ridge rv directly and talk with them.

They have gone above and beyond with repairs made to our unit. We did take it to the factory because we had a *** dealer too.

How is this remotely a fair review about Open Range RV's? You're pissed off at the dealer who sold you a camper for not complying with the deal you made with them, not OR and your posting negative comments about the manufacture?

Useless review about OR

Not sure of the year of your rig but there was a maintenance bulletin sent out from the factory regarding their decal adhesive. I would be pissed at your dealer for not informing you of a problem OR pointed out and wanted to fix.

If it's only 40 bucks why not just buy new ones? Pretty childish, imo, to post on here about a something so small that you want for free even tho you are out of your 2 year warranty.

Our 2012 Open Range Lite 5th Wheel

We absolutely love our Open Range, the 3 slides with 2 on each side of the living area makes it almost as big as our living room at home, it's very comfortable for my husband and I and our 2 little fur babies for extended lengths of travel. We love the full size linen closet in the bathroom.

And also that the bathroom is all in the bathroom. We have had as many a 12 inside to play games during a rainy day. The only issue we have had was last year on an extended travel, we noticed we had a flat tire when we pulled into our new campsite. Our Good Sam roadside assistance tow truck driver was able to crawl underneath and lower the tire.

No mention found in all our paper work, after carefully searching, finally found it with the handle to manually operate the rear jacks. They were both inside the front crawl through storage, there is a rear wall that slides open to access the plumbing, they were both in there on the floor. The lite weight enables us to pull and climb hills and it handles great, sometimes almost forgetting its there. Lots of lights for setting up in the dark.

This is our 3rd 5th wheel, 2nd one we bought new. Would buy it all over again!

Look at your siding. If the top and bottom are different colors with a narrow silver strip covering them horizontally...

beware. These are two pieces of siding held together with that thin silver strip just glued to them. Ours came apart and water started pouring in the walls when it rained. Big design problem!

I have never seen another RV with siding like this. Most are one piece top to bottom. OR/Highland Ridge doesn't use this type of siding anymore. Dealer says it's too big a problem for them to fix.

Highland Ridge says it's out of warranty and disallowed our dealer's claim. We're stuck with it.

Guest

We love our Open Range travel trailer. Highland Ridge has been very responsive to any issues that we have had. We would buy again.

Two many issues and way to long to get into deal to fix

Water leak in bed room 1 year old, Black value would not close, Water heater leaks water, and two to three months to get into a dealer to fix , what a big joke. You get 2 year to get things fixed but you cannot get into your deal. I would never buy anything from Open Range again. I have also told many to stay as far away from Open range and RV dealers. Yes the dealer can sell you and get you out the door quickly but when it comes time to get something fix, good luck.

Sorry Chinese Made Dometic AC

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Well where to start. This is not just a Open Range problem except the choice to use the Chinese made *** on top of my Fifth Wheel.

The company that has these manufactured "DOMETIC" in China should just shutter the doors on their RV AC business. I had a Sundance 32 ft Fifth Wheel 2013 model that had the same AC. 3 units in 2 yrs. I have the knowledge to put freon in them when low and have bought the correct gas and charge hose for the R401A which these units require.

When they go out its normally when you need them the most like on a week Vacation or something that just screws up everything. I climb on roof and *** cover to gas unit and find a Sticker "made in CHINA" on mine under cover. They aint proud of it enough to put sticker in plain view of course. So the musical chairs of AC started.

3 units later and one that did not cool from first start, they did not test after install. After several months the gas leaks out so it stops cooling from poor quality coils. They do not have a charge port to gas them. They throw them away and put another on.

True story. So we upgrade to a 40 foot Open Range. Nice unit. Same AC system.

Only now I have front and rear units. The rear is cooling great so far after 4 months or so. The front one is blowing HOT air. So Im headed to Palm Beach Fl with my unit in the AM about 70 miles each way so they can toss the bad one in the trash and set another POS on my unit under warranty.

So this really is number 4 for me in the last two years. WTF is wrong with this picture. First it was Japan ***, now Chinese ***, Korean ***, Taiwan ***, etc etc etc. This country is going to ***.

Speaking of ***, my black tank valve seems to catch paper and then wont seal when shut. Thats no good. Fluid leak out of tank bad. I know its paper sticking on vlv seal because I took mine out to figure out why my new Fifth Wheel black tank was leaking out the discharge with valve shut.

Paper jammed into seal after closing. Picked it out works fine for a month or so. I have started hooking flush hose up and flushing every time I empty tank. That worked for a few weekends.

Its leaking again. Ill bet its a *** China made valve. Its not supposed to catch paper on the way by. The tank design sucks while were at it.

Its not sloped at discharge of tank. So solids can sit in the wrong place if not flushed out all the way. Man please. I have owned 6 or 7 RV's in my life, first time I ever had this issue.

I know how to treat and care for my RV tanks. This aint supposed to happen. My Chinese Microwave has stopped working now also, light wont even come on. Yes I check for power at the outlet for it.

Man please help me. My Chinese lights on the awning when first turned first night new RV all came on until the LED's started going out one at a time, now only half or so survived. so half the LED light lights up. I have another appointment in August to fix these other problems.

Another 140 mile fix it trip in summer heat, oh boy. On one slide the bottom corner has come apart to let water into the wood floor so its duct taped until fixed. American made duct tape though. Thats all I can find wrong so far.We love this front living room 40 footer.

The design is great. For the most part quality is good except for the CHINESE parts and pieces. I am sick of cheap China ***. Sorry but Im an older AMERICAN that sure misses MADE in USA products dearly.

What the *** are we doing to this country. Free trade agreements help every country but the USA. Our dollar is so strong, against other currencies other countries cant afford USA stuff. American companies take manufacturing off shore, we loose good taxing paying jobs and get this cheap sorry *** back in return.

Its not good. Its not right. Coleman RV AC made in China also I think. Anyone that knows of a roof AC made in USA please respond.

Im going to try and keep the *** unit tomorrow and silver solder a charge port into low side myself and keep until the next failure happens just change it out my self.

Fix them all my self. Changing *** with *** is just ***.

Ditto everything you said about Dometic. 4 rooftop units in two years on my brand new Keystone Montana Mountaineer 5th wheel purchased from Camping World in Cocoa Florida.

Also, the Dometic refrigerator has similar issues. Just wore me out with dragging my RV into their shop and them holding it for 30 days each time waiting on authorization / replacement units.

I am now out of warranty and I wonder if their is another brand that has a stellar reputation for A/C and Refrigerators? I am wore the *** out with Camping World and Dometic

Giancarlo Oyq

As to the "Buy and Atwood AC" Dometic bought them out. Now what ?

Giancarlo Oyq

Palm Beach RV where we bought the NEW Open Range 40 footer never recorded any record of our warranty issues. They were supposed to order new walls for the slide out in bedroom that's got the rotten floor and wall in it to remove and rebuild the slide out.

They never called to tell us the walls had come in from manufacture. We called them to see whats up and discover they have no record of the issues from the last two warranty visits. Their service department needs some some new management, bad, caution if you deal with them. We asked for documentation and were told oh don't worry its in the computer. No record of issues.

We contacted Open Range and got them involved and are now set up to take to Lazy Days in Tampa FL. We managed to get a new Microwave from Palm Beach RV and 1 new AC unit.. That's it. AC's are still working as of now.

But the rear unit compressor wont start half the time. It cycles on off on off till compressor finally starts. Even with the problems we love the 40 foot front living set up. We will get everything sorted out I hope.

I will not go back to Palm Beach RV. Open Range seems to want to correct the issues so thanks to them.I will update when done with repairs.

As for my rant on Chinese goods that fail over and over. I was pissed when I wrote this review yes. It is a serious issue that not only cost consumers and company's like Open Range RV a lot of money to repair, fuel, time etc etc, it cost our young people good paying jobs that are careers instead of low paying, no benefits, part time *** jobs.

Sure cant raise a family like that. Every body cant go to College.

Just had my third Dometic AC replaced on my Open Range 40 footer. We used it one freaking day and it's blowing hot air.

Dometic you suck. They won't cover if you ask to change brands.

That is 6 Total between this RV and my last one. 2013 Sundance and 2014 Open Range.

I have owned 4 different RV's all by different manufacturer's over 12 years and I will say with all honesty the quality of my OR far exceeds anything i have had in the past. They back their product with a 2 year warranty which says a lot about the faith they have in their product. I have had a couple minor issues, the hangar rack in my wardrobe fell and a pendant light over the island came unscrewed but besides that i have had many uneventful trips. Besides the quality, OR's interior design and innovative features is what drew me to them. If you want a well built rig that does not look like every other boring box rolling down the freeway, Open Range is where you need to end your search. You will pay a little more but it is well worth it. Looking forward to many happy years ahead.

Sounds like open range reps putting on the spin, or your just in for a rude awakening in a year or two. Plus 3 campers in 18 months?

Next year it will 4 campers in 24 months !! LOL

I bought a 3 month old(used) Open range Light 319rls, and love it. I've bought 3 different brands of campers in the last 18 months.

This far exceeds the quality of the other 2 brands. Also very minor issues that took no time at all to fix.

So true

Guest

I like the build quality and features that appear on Youtube (anyway). The manufacturer does not have a website for customers.

WTF !!.

That means I would need to get all my info and service/parts issues resolved through dealers ? Heck no.

Guest

Did you address the recall on the screws for the slides? Open range recognized a problem and made repairs free of cost.

Proactive maintenance is your best friend. Open Range has a higher satisfaction rating than any of the major manufacturers...ie. Jayco, Forrest River, Heartland.

Even my parents Mobile Suites fiver has issues. Nature of the beast.

Open Range RV

Our dealer is fantastic but the quality of the build is not so! We've had close to 15 warranty trips to the dealer in the first year:

- all four bearing seals failed on one trip

- dining table & chairs all missing half the screws and the screws were so short the one chair seat came off in my wife hands

- Slide switches not providing adequate power to slide motors

- Bad electrical outlet

- Awning LED lights failed

- Black tank cable broke while in Florida

- Shower door latch cheap plastic doesn't work

- All drawers only 2 screws most have fallen out during travel

- Drawer under oven cabinet frame broke because drawer latches aren't strong enough to keep drawers closed during travel

- Furniture tie down rings cheap & flimsy only one screw, put tension to make things tight and they pull out of the floor

- All interior slide trim has fallen off, held on by minimal strips of adhesive and tiny staples

This is a 201* 345RLS Open Range have had it just over a year, my warranty issues were addresses however, its cost us a small fortune in gas back & forth to the dealer and time lost using the coach for our enjoyment. Open Range has some serious quality control issues and why do they get away with it, because we fix all of their mistakes by making suspension upgrades, replace all the cheap crap with quality parts and make sure the repair work is done properly.

If everything was all good I wouldn't be writing this and its all documented with warranty repair receipts, photos and videos. Today they offered me $425.00 a goodwill offering as they put it for my troubles, I told them to keep it I'd rather tell folks my story. Mind you, my warranty issues were addressed and repaired by either dealer, myself or a carpenter friend of mine but the coach is still dropping sawdust all over everything every time we go out. Should we be breathing this stuff, could it be harmful, any chemicals in that wood we should be worried about, I don't know but I'm going to do my homework on the issue. Quality is a big concern do your homework!!

Sounds like the same open range, Highland Ridge rep that tried to shift the blame to me for my new leaky POS Open Range. Funny how they are anonymous and won't give there name??

Guest

They fixed everything that was covered by warranty?? And offered you 400 dollars for your time and travel??

Sounds like they took care of you. I would have taken the money and if you still wanted to *** about it everywhere you could.

The way you talk about the sawdust, you sound litigious...can't please folks like you. Since you are aware of the "harm" from sawdust, if you do not sell the RV you are purposely putting your families health on the line for a potential payout...takes a special person to do that.

We bought our 2014 Light BHS in August 2014. In November of 2014 the rear bedroom slide motor failed and the slide was stuck out. Called Open Range and used the provided flex adapter to manually bring in the slide. I had to drive the camper 4 hrs to the dealer where it was purchased. They replaced the switch, motor and gearbox on that slide. I went back 2 days later and when they were showing me the repair the living room slide failed. So they replaced all the slide switches, motors, and gearboxes. Problem solved for now..... Fast forward to today. The living room slide went out and failed to go in. This time it is the gearbox. So the flex tool won't work. It took 4 adults and two teenagers to push the slide in. Instead of driving to the dealer in Chicago Open Range is paying a local shop to fix it. My concern is are all the gearboxes going to fail eventually ( sooner than later)? So far all my issues have been covered under the manufacturers warranty. We also bought an extended warranty so we should be covered for the next 4 years.

The gearboxes failed due to a switch. Open Range tried to use a different manufacturer for the switches and it didnt pan out.

They were not sending enough voltage. Open Range put out a recall on these products so your switches should be changed out. If that has happened you should be fine.

Also, may need to check and see if the cables are adjusted properly. A quality dealer does this before you pick up the coach.

Guest

I have a 2014 Light with three slides. All of them have failed and have been replaced.

The kitchen slide failed last week again. They told me everything was replaced but the gear box failed again.

Also the locks on my storage doors got stuck and broke. No please with the quality so far.

Guest

There was a maintenance bulletin about the motors and gear boxes. If your trailers slide switches are the ones without rounded corners, you need to have all replaced.

Join openrangeowners.com and you will be kept up to date. All trailers have issues, including open range, but open range has a much higher satisfaction rating that it's competitors.

Don't buy an Open Range!!!

We purchased a 201* 327BHS. Thought it was our dream RV, but turns out it is more like our nightmare!

Of the 5 slides, we know that 4 are leaking (not sure of the 5th because it is the kitchen slide and you cannot tell because you can't get behind the appliances.) If you look under the living room slide from the outside, you can see the floor is rotting out of it. What's even worse, you cannot get anyone to stand behind it. Open Range has sold out Jayco. If you talk to Highland Ridge RV, they bought assets only not liability.

Just doesn't seem right that there is nowhere to turn to. Very disappointed and heartbroken.

Exterior decals

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Main decals started shrinking and now are cracking and peeling. The dealer said it costs around thirteen hundred dollars for a new decal kit, so what I will end up doing is peeling the old ones off and airbrushing new ones on myself.

You would think the company would like to have their product that goes down the road for all to see that their product was a good looking product, guess not.

As far as the rest of the fifth wheel I have only had a few minor problems with it that I just fixed myself. Will probably end up buying a 3X.

Had the same problem. So last year I just removed them.

I have a clean canvas.

Kinda like it plain. Only other problems is speaker wiring not correct and tv cables in bedroom labeled wrong.

Guest

I have to agree with "Anonymous" when it comes to repairs ie: fireplace quit working, stereo system same (ours never did work), and we have cracking, peeling decals PLUS the rear window leaked and now we have water damage in plain sight in the LR and really no money to have it repaired professionally. We have an OR R398 RLS.

Have had FIVE hose fittings go bad at different times and our RV repair person said that poor quality fittings were originally installed. When we emailed a dealer here in FL he said that they could crack in weather 40 degrees and below.

How weird because the unit has NEVER been out of the State of FL........ We are just sick at heart because this is our HOME and if we'd known about the shoddy workmanship we NEVER would have purchased it........**sigh**

Guest

My 201* ***RLS doing the same thing, plus 3 roofs in 4 years

Guest

I will say this being in the rv profession. Decals before 2011 were garbage.

They were bad across the board. They now have very nice decals that last quite a while. We do not sell the Open Range, but they are an excellent product. If you are serious about the 3x you will be happy.

I do believe people sometimes have higher expectations of campers than they should.

Dont get me wrong, they are a lot of money but so is your house. I will be willing to bet if you pulled it down the interstate at 60mph it would have issues too.

Guest

I am shopping for an OR and I have a question. You say what you dont like is "bad quality," then you say you are probably going to buy a 3x which is also made by Open Range.

Are the stickers on the outside the only thing that's bad quality? It must not be too bad if you are planning on being a repeat customer.

I own an Open Range 385 RLS, biggest mistake ever. Love the lay out and looks but that's it.

Had a leak on the back they replied still leaked had to fix it myself. Soft spot in floor in bathroom, shower cracked on floor (I'm 5'10, 183), awning came loose on one side and fell, fireplace quit working, antenna crank fell off, refrigerator broke had to replace myself, front jacks don't work (electric) gears broken, had to fix washing machine twice, slide cables broke in living room 3 times and once in bedroom, a/c in living room went out and they don't make that model for RVs anymore had to replace it myself, cheap stereo system doesn't work anymore, bottom part of rear ladder broke off while attempting to repair leaky roof or A/C don't remember witch, and had to replace inverter twice. Other than that I like the camper, insert sarcasm. Will never buy another and tell everyone I can not to take on the headache.

Run, Run from Open Range.
